The English Cottage Garden Nursery is a small nursery based in Godmersham in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Over time we have developed almost a passion for wildflowers in particular and this is reflected in the different varieties we grow. Wildflowers are becoming increasingly rare in the wild and it is, therefore, important that we plant suppliers, gardeners, designers and landscapers do all we can to preserve these native species for future generations. It is also important from the point of view of the wildlife who feed on these wildflowers: no wildflowers = no wildlife.

We are also passionate about our native butterflies, moths and bees. The purpose of this website is to introduce you to Britain's beautiful butterflies and provide information on the plants you can grow to attract them to your garden. The butterflies you attract will be dependent on where in the country you live. Use our database to search for the information you require.

According to the study compiled by Butterfly Conservation and the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, even common species have fallen by 24%. It also found that 72% of species had declined in abundance and that the distribution of 54% had been reduced. Among those showing the biggest declines were the Pearl-bordered Fritillary, the Duke of Burgundy and the High Brown Fritillary which saw a 69% fall in its population.
